Whole Classroom Motivation
To ensure you are
reaching all students, it's advisable to
have a class wide motivational system. Our
educational consultants have visited
classroom during follow-up visits and have
gathered a few ideas from classroom
teachers. Here are just a few:
Girls vs. Boys
Thermometer
5th grade teachers from
a school in Blackwell Oklahoma have used red
paper and a little bit of creativity. They
came up with with a nice visual for their
Focus On Reading students. Each time
students score 80% or better on a Guided
Reading lesson, they get to go and move the
red line up. Whoever group reaches the top
first, wins. This system may be used even
if you do not have an equal number of boys
and girls, use one thermometer instead of
two.

Reading Rocks
Use this idea to motivate your whole class.
Gather some small rocks from the playground
or
purchase some gravel from the hardware
store. Locate a large clear container to
hold the rocks. The goal is for the class to
fill the container. Each time a student
scores 80% or better on a Guided Reading
lesson, the student may place a rock in the
container. Teachers can then come up with a
reward that the students will work toward.
Figure out what your students like and then
make it their reward for working hard. |
